Christoph Stang - German
Date
Published: 24 June 2005
Our other new writer this month
is a strong emerging prophetic musician Christoph Stang.
He is currently working with renowned
worship leader Noel Richards in England in staging the ‘Calling
All Nations’ Event in Berlin Germany July 2006 (see www.callingallnations.com).
|
This event is calling people
from all around the world to prophetic worship, prayer
and intercession in the heart of Berlin at the Olympic
football Stadium. This is the sequel to the event that
the visionary Noel Richards staged in 1997 at Wembley stadium,
which gathered 50,000 in the UK to worship and prayer.
It was the forerunner of events like The Call and many
others around the world. Stephen Bennett of Awesome City
Music Ministries produced the film of the event that has
inspired thousands around the world. This film can be purchased
at Calling all Nations or visit www.kingswaymusic.co.uk
German born Christoph Stang carries a great heart for his nation Germany. Chris
is an emerging prophet musician with a wonderful serving spirit. Having walked
with Jesus many years, God is raising him up with a voice to touch his beloved
nation. His album titled Stang Vereint is excellent and of world class quality.
The sounds carry strong current worship influences, ala U2, some haunting
female vocals, and other soundscapes reminiscent of Bladerunner. You will
love this album and I encourage you to support Stang (I nearly said Sting!).
You can order the CD at info@stang-music.com - they will take care of you
from there fulfilling your order.
Christoph Stang – Creative Inspiration
Sometimes when I am listening to great music, and the particular band has
been around for more than a decade - still managing to bring out refreshing
and powerful songs - I am wondering where they get it from. My wife was asking
me the other day, when we were talking about doing another record. “Do
you still have ideas? Did you not use all your music ‘ammunitions’ on
the last album?”
Where can we get new and fresh ideas from to write music
that thunders through peoples hearts and minds? Creativity
that spells out colorful stories of truth in just one song,
that make people think again, cry, or simply leaves them
amazed?
It’s inspiration.
It’s the stuff that hangs in the air when you sit
down and write a great song in minutes and the melody just
flows out of you when you play. Even the Bible itself was
received through inspiration.
‘All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and
is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,
for instruction in righteousness’ 2 Timothy 3:16.
We as Christians are connected to the most powerful and
creative source there is in the entire universe. The Creator,
who is able to call billions of people into existence,
not one of them looking the same, and who stretches his
ideas of diversity to even making every snowflake look
different! It goes beyond what our brain can comprehend
in how marvelous and great our God is.
Now imagine how powerful your music can be, if it comes
out of this very place where God is whispering melodies,
words, and pictures into your heart, and where your music
becomes inspired by the living God. All we can do is believe to experience this.
If you've believe Jesus is the Son of God - who came into
our world to carry our sin on the cross where he died,
only to be miraculously raised from the dead in three days.
Now put your trust in Him, and lay down your life before
Him, and you will enter this very zone - the place where
the most impressive and mysterious creative inspiration is coming from: The
Kingdom of God. Born into this kingdom,
we are connected to the Holy Spirit 24/7 and can draw from
him for new melodies and musical expressions.
The bible shows us three different sources of inspiration.
There are the people who drink from the well of the former
lead worshiper of heaven, Satan. In art and music inspired
by him, there will always be perverted and confusing messages
coming across. It is usually quite obvious.
Than there is inspiration of our own mind:
"
Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who
prophesy, and say to those who prophesy from their
own inspiration, 'Listen to the word of the LORD 'Thus says
the Lord GOD, "Woe to the foolish prophets who are
following their own spirit and have seen nothing’” Ezekiel
13:2-3
The Hebrew word for inspiration here is Leb and means the
inner man, mind or will, or a seat of appetites and emotions.
If our spirit is not renewed, or as the bible calls it
born again, we will bring only our own ideas forward and
nobody is really interested in that. I usually get fed
up quite quickly listening to the radio these days. The
majority of songs played often speak of dull and boring
human ideas and emotions. Even though the musical ideas
and sounds can be interesting, ever so often the words
sung to it really kills the entire piece of art. There
is nothing wrong with human emotions or a good love song,
but the truth is, it doesn’t feed you. There is no
real life in it.
The final source of inspiration of course is the Holy Spirit:
God said to Moses: "Now then go, and I, even I, will
be with your mouth, and teach you what you are to say" 2
Exodus 4:12.
The Hebrew word for teach, is Yarah. It means to throw,
to shoot arrows, to go through water, to direct, instruct.
God is more than happy to literally shoot us through with
inspiration. He wants to throw fresh waters of ideas and
messages over you, for you to use in your art. He wants
to instruct and direct you. I do like the militant way
this is also coming across in the spirit. God is shooting
arrows of ideas into us - very cool don’t you think.
Jesus said: “For I will give you utterance and wisdom
which none of your opponents will be able to resist or
refute” Luke 21:15.
The Greek word utterance is Stoma and means the edge of
a sword. It also means, that since thoughts of a man’s
soul find verbal utterance by his mouth, the “heart” and
the “mouth” are distinguished. This is awesome.
The Lord wants to give your art and music divine power.
It is like a sword, one edge is your heart and the other
your mouth. He will also give you the wisdom of how to
use this in you music.
If we allow him to inspire us, you music will cut through
the sound pollution of our modern society and make a difference
in peoples lives. Your music uttering out of your “heart” and “mouth”,
sharpened and forged together to a beautiful two-edged
sword - your opponents won’t be able to resist or
refute. Don’t be surprised if your music will cause
opposition. It will stir up the enemy and perhaps without
you being even aware of it, you will enter the realm of
spiritual warfare, because of the very nature of what comes
out of you in song and music. Man, that is powerful.
Realizing how important the divine inspiration really is
we need to do whatever we can to facilitate the unbroken
flow of the Holy Spirit inside of us. You can do this in
quite simple ways. However, there will be a cost for it
and it will need much more of our time than we might like.
Time is a very important factor in this. The time you spend
with the Lord, in prayer, singing spiritual songs, worshiping
him etc. will be crucial for that well to open up inside
of you and to become a constant stream of living water
that flows from your body through your music.
‘But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration
of the Almighty giveth them understanding’ Job 32:8.
The root word of inspiration used in this scripture speaks
of “a woman in travail or labor”. The process
of receiving and finishing a powerful song will sometimes
require labor and hard work over a period of time. A song
is like a good wine - it takes time to mature. But the
divine inspiration through the Holy Spirit, will not only
conceive the idea, but also nurture it, feed it and cause
it to grow, until the time will come to “get it born” and
make it public.
For us musicians, I think this is one of the most important
truths we can get hold of. Inspired, while connected, to
write a simple but powerful song of love, passion, broken-ness,
or joy, we can actually change the world, because the stuff
we write and perform is coming straight out of God’s
heart and it is the stuff every human being is longing
so desperately for.
There is a lot to be said about this; how God is shaping
our character, identity and integrity, in order not to
dilute the Spirit who wants to come through our songs and
music in full force. But if we learn to move, sing, and
write material that comes right out of that place of inspiration
from inside of us, that song or sound can change someone’s
world and the power released can affect whole cities and
nations.
The constitution of the Kingdom of God - which is based
on love - is written into our hearts as soon as we become
born into it. It will change your life forever, and make
your music gift very powerful so it can fulfill the destiny
God intended. It makes you a true son or daughter of God.
That’s the place of true worship - it is inspired
by Him - now we can worship in Spirit and truth!
